Cracking The TExES Test: Why Emotional Preparation Is Key To Your Success

By: Mariah Bliss

When it comes to test preparation, you know that effective TExES test practice and study is vital towards your success. However, did you ever stop to think that your attitude towards your own test-taking abilities is just as crucial towards that high score?

That is right! A winning attitude will set you up for tremendous success, while a poor attitude will only prevent you from achieving the Texas teaching career of your dreams. Do not let those TExES tests prevent you from finally accomplishing your dreams, not to mention gaining that lucrative salary! Here is how to emotionally prepare yourself for the most important date of your career, the test day!

How Do You See Yourself As A TExES Test Taker?

In order to pass any test with flying colors, you first need to believe in your abilities as a test taker. More specifically, if you want to ace the TExES test, you need to believe that you are capable of top performance! To get in the right frame of mind (the one where you believe that you are capable of passing any test), think back to a time when you were successful at a task.

Whether it was earning top honors in school or losing a large amount of weight, reminding yourself that you are a person capable of massive success will give you the ultimate attitude adjustment for those TExES tests!

Do You Think You Are Weak In Any Areas Of The Test?

While it is natural for many test takers to have their good and bad areas, it is important to trick your brain in regarding your weak areas as your good areas!

By eliminating the negative language from your TExES test preparation (for example, thinking that you are just not good in math, etc), then you will actually be more emotionally and mentally prepared to improve your skills in that specific subject. After all, you are less likely to put in hard work studying those math problems if you believe that you are naturally bad at it. So stop with the negative language, and start giving yourself a pat on the back before you begin each study session!

Before Taking The TExES Test, Remind Yourself Of What You Are Working For

In the midst of preparation for those tests, it can be all too easy to lose track of what it is that you are working for, which is your Texas teacher certification. However, if you want to maximize your emotional preparation for the test, then give yourself reminders of why you need to keep studying, even when you are too tired or discouraged to continue. Try volunteering in a local classroom or tutor underprivileged children once a week. It will give you the emotional drive you need to skyrocket your test success!
