By: Phoenix Delray

It has been more than fifty years since the first Volkswagens rolled onto sales lots in the United States, and today VW is one of the most recognized and most successful car companies across the globe. Before the introduction of the first Transporter and before people recognized the Microbus, Volkswagen referred to their little prized model as the Volkswagen Station Wagon that was it. That initial popular line went on for quite a time until the first Type IIIs came along, followed by the Type IV, the Dasher, Quantum and Fox wagons, and finally summed up by the Passat, which has been one of the best selling models since 1990.

The SportWagen is one of the latest wagons that have been released by the car company, which is built off of the Jetta model. The real difference is that it is much more than just your everyday sedan and there is a back hatch on it. There are innovative features and convenient points all over the car, with the rear doors creating quite a buzz with everyone from consumers to dealers. The tail lights are on the rear quarter panels that are original to the Sport Wagen. The headrests are different than regular ones because they sit lower than others so they do not block the visibility out of the hatch when passengers are sitting back there.

Many Volkswagen enthusiasts find that the new SportWagen is only fifty pounds heavier than its sedan counterparts, and this extra weight is mostly in the trunk. The reason that this is such a buzzworthy topics for owners is that the weight actually helps to balance out the front drive, which is normally nose heavy. This of course provides better weight distribution and also better handling and control for the driver.

There are many Volkswagen models that are popular projects for restoration enthusiasts, and restoration parts of all kinds have been used for many years not only to repair older models but also to update and modify all years and models. It doesnt matter if you are a first time restorer or you have been doing it for decades it is always a good idea to learn as much as you can about a car, the manufacturer and the history of how that car came to be in order to fully appreciate the project that you work on. If you enjoy vintage cars and have a hard time deciding whether original parts or manufactured restoration parts will be best for your project, take into consideration all the positives and negatives of all of your options.
