Why You Need an Online Video Production

By: Irwin Myers

Video for a Chicago business is a special project because of the highly competitive local market. Before the Internet, business video marketing was important, but you might have been able to do without it.

Today, thanks to the popularity of online video browsing and sharing, video marketing is absolutely essential as a means to get the word out about a service, a product, or even a person. Demand for video is not the only reason video has grown in popularity. The equipment needed to make videos has never been as affordable.

The cost of a digital video camera, a computer and some basic software is a tiny fraction of what it was ten years ago and does not even compare to the tens of thousands of dollars necessary for professional video production gear from the pre-computer era. One thing has not changed from the old days. The question of what to put on the screen still has to be answered.

Today, the options can include any of a wide range of content. A video can contain screen demonstrations, or screen casts, which are tutorial videos focused on software that take a viewer step-by-step through the software. It can contain an actual product demonstration.

One of my favorite examples of showing a product in action is by Blendtec blenders which are featured on YouTube. They show the blender blending golf balls, cell phones, transformers, magnets, marbles and other unlikely items. These videos are entertaining and make their point of showing how good their blenders are.

It can also show an author, owner, producer or sales professional talking about his work or product or service in a face-to-face summary.

A motivational speaker or other spokesperson might use videos to demonstrate their ability to change minds and lives using the power of speech. Slideshow presentations can be put together quickly, showing facts and benefits, adorned with appropriate music and narration.

The process can be as elaborate or as simple as your message requires, within certain constraints. In general, the shorter the clip, the more likely the viewers attention will be held throughout the entire clip. But one factor alone determines success with online video more than any other the clips viral nature.

This is a measure of how much the clip is shared by internet users, passing it along to their friends and colleagues, similar to the way a virus passes from person to person. Without going viral, your message is not reaching the number of people it could, especially in video in todays marketplace.
